Hello from your Atlanta Regional Representative. GOTA has been very busy with the strategic plan so that our professional organization can better serve our needs. That being said, in my role I get the privilege of being your liaison to the GOTA Board. That means your comments, questions, and ideas are best communicated through me.
One of my goals as your representative is to create opportunities for you to network and build relationships with other members.
One idea on how to make this goal happen would be to offer a GOTA gathering at an area restaurant (quite possibly at more than one restaurant since our Region covers so many counties and of course, considering Atlanta traffic) where you had an opportunity to network with other members, enjoy an “OT Hour” type atmosphere, and get CEs. For example, I would organize a date, time, and location. The information would arrive in your “in box” with a request to RSVP for an upcoming “OT Hour”. The CE would be free, but you would need to cover individual cost for food and drink. I would appreciate your feedback on this idea and if you have other ideas on creative ways for us to network.
Another goal I have is to assist you in finding a volunteer experience with GOTA that meets your availability and interest. GOTA’s strategic plan looks to providing low cost CE, a mentoring program, and collaborative opportunities with research projects. All of the initiatives rely on us as members, to take on roles as a Presenter, Committee Member, Project Volunteer, and Research Associate to name a few. The success and growth of GOTA depends on our willingness to be active with our involvement. I look forward to hearing from you about your areas of interest and/or availability. For example, maybe you have time to assist the CE Committee by making calls/e-mails to potential vendors.
The Board’s Strategic Plan incorporated many new cost-saving changes including no longer using snail-mail for communication to our Members. Please be sure your information, especially e-mail address, is correct on your GOTA profile. If you find any updating is needed just send an email to info@gaota.com for the quickest response. Also, watch your e-mail for all GOTA communication, including this info-newsletter.
