Essential Oils in Therapeutic Practice: Consideration for Healthcare Professionals

Essential oils have been used therapeutically for thousands of years and their benefits are well established. Healthcare professional use these oils as a complementary therapy to support health and healing within a wide variety of practice and settings. 

Topics Include:

  • Review of related anatomy
  • Unique therapeutic properties of essential oils and their impact on the human body
  • Sensory processing theory and how essential oils can be used as a sensory modality
  • Methods of use and safety in practice
  • Research and guidelines related to oils to address mood, modulation, pain, inflammation and nausea
  • Hands-on lab and Make-and-Take

Jennifer Allison, OTD and Amanda Buono, MS OTR/L BCP have over 25 years of combined experience. They use essential oils personally and professionally and find their use to be an irreplaceable tool within their therapeutic practice.
