Clinical Research Partnerships Committee M. Irma Alvarado, PhD OTR/L, Lynn Jaffe, ScD OTR/L The Board approved the following goals for 2008 for the Clinical Research Partnerships Committee: - GOTA to provide a resource list of OT professionals to participate in research projects to be posted on the website.
- GOTA to provide a resource list of current research projects/activities to be posted on the website.
Although there was strong interest in partnering for research at GOTA conference in October; a Survey emailed to the membership regarding interest in Mini-workshops, especially one on March 29 in Gainesville, GA, Brenau Campus generated 10 responses. Some respondents cannot meet on Saturdays and some were not interested in the topic "searching the literature". The blog created by Lynn Jaffe has had little traffic (2 people have left comments since October). So, this is not a way to get information regarding research to the membership. We had posted the idea on the listserv and also didn't get much response.
The Research Partnerships Committee wants to meet with and assist occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants interested in partnering or developing their research ideas.
One idea is to have small groups with Laptops meet at a Panera bakery for 3 hour sessions. Participants would bring research ideas, develop their ideas into a research question, develop a research plan or study, and locate resources for researching the literature. Depending on the groups' needs; subsequent meetings or online chats could occur to further collaborate on ideas.
The group could meet at least one other time before GOTA, then meet to present their proposed research, recruit others at GOTA, or report on collaboration with student groups with whom they might be partnered.

if you would like to participate in a small group session at a Panera Bakery or are interested in a clinical research partnership.
A research OT blog was created by Lynn Jaffe -- the blog address is: http://researchot.wordpress.com Anyone interested is encouraged to participate. To make comments you need to "login" - you can do that by clicking on "login" where you will create a username and password. You do NOT need to create a blog yourself (although you are more than welcome to). Let's get some research going in this state!
