AOTA RA News - October 2010
The Fall online RA meeting will be held November 8-18, 2010. Motions have not yet been posted. I will post them on the website and a letter will be sent for feedback when they are made available.
AOTA launched COOL (Coordinated Online Opportunities for Leadership) on September 27th. It is on the home page of the AOTA website. COOL is an online
database that allows AOTA members to complete information that will inform AOTA member’s willingness to serve based on time and experiences. With the database in place, AOTA will have improved access to volunteers to build its leadership capacity for the future. I encourage all members who are interested in getting involved in volunteer work at AOTA to register with COOL.
AOTA is accepting nominations for awards up until October 25, 2010. Please consider nominating your colleagues as it would be honorable to have award winners from Georgia each and every year! There is a new award this year that is being given by AOTF to honor volunteers. This award is the AOTF/Patterson Award for Community Volunteerism, and is an award and honorarium for occupational therapy practitioners who demonstrate commitment, excellence, and/or innovation in providing community-based volunteer services using occupational therapy skills. The aim of this award is to encourage the provision of occupational therapy-based volunteerism in communities of need, and in the process, to further promote the recognition of the value of occupational therapy to the public at large. Up to 5 awards will be presented at the Annual Awards Ceremony during the AOTA Annual Conference.
Nominations are being accepted up until November 1, 2010. Please see web address below to obtain nominations forms and criteria for nomination.

AOTA is accepting nominations for the Emerging Leaders Development Program. This program is for students who are in their last year of training or for practitioners with 5 years or less experience who want to build on their own leadership capacity, with the intent to be a future leader of AOTA. Opportunities to be mentored in special projects by established AOTA leaders will be made available to the 15 individuals who are selected for this special opportunity. Application requirements are posted on the AOTA website and are due by November 2, 2010. Please let your colleagues and students know about this excellent opportunity.
The first meeting of the Procedural & Organizational Change Ad Hoc Committee was conducted on September 21 and 22, 2010. This group was put together following the Spring RA meeting when a new motion was put in place to look at organizational processes that would best meet AOTA members needs while supporting the Centennial Vision. The first major step in beginning the consensus building process was to determine draft design specifications on which future discussions would be based. These specifications will be crucial for the committee as ideas/concepts are evaluated and considered. The AOTA One-Minute Update on October 12th will include these Draft Design Specifications and minutes of the Ad Hoc Committee’s initial meeting. AOTA Staff will create a Zoomerang survey to solicit member’s input into these documents. It is very important that all AOTA members please participate in this survey when it is made available. The results of this survey will be utilized when the committee meets again in November.
