Recognitions Awards

Recognitions News - March 2010

The Recognitions Committee is seeking volunteers who would like to serve for a short time (approximately 2 weeks) on the Recognitions selection committee.  Responsibilities would include participating in a blind review of nomination applications that occurs 4 weeks prior to annual conference.  Reviewers would help select candidates for 4 awards.

GOTA annually recognizes individuals who demonstrate outstanding skills as a practitioner or leader in the field of occupational therapy, including both types of practitioners (OTR and OTA) and students.  We are now accepting nominations for all of our award categories and encourage everyone to nominate their colleagues who might possess the qualifications that make them eligible for these prestigious awards.

The Barbara E. Grant Award of Merit, our highest honor, will go to an OT practitioner who demonstrates outstanding global contributions to the profession in the areas of service, education and advocacy.

The OT Practitioner Award is a combined award this year, and will honor an OTR or an OTA who demonstrates outstanding contributions to the profession in the areas of practice, research, education or client advocacy.

Our students will also be recognized with the Outstanding Occupational Therapy Student of the Year Award.  This award may go to either an OTR student or an OTA student and is based on leadership to the profession and to student government/associations.

There is also a Certificate of Appreciation, which is given to recognize an individual or organization that is not an OT or OT provider, for their support, promotion or advocacy for occupational therapy.

To nominate one or more of your colleagues, please refer to the Recognitions section of the GOTA website where you will find complete descriptions and criteria required to be nominated.  Nominations are accepted all year long and we encourage you to nominate multiple individuals if you feel that they deserve these awards.  Since only one award in each category is awarded per year, please feel free to re-nominate someone another year.  We look forward to reviewing many fine nominations this year and to recognizing those that contribute so much to our profession.

Sincerely,
Debi Hinerfeld
Chair of the Recognitions Committee
